What the Nellist sisters did

Alexene and Ashleigh Nellist, serial Comic Relief fundraisers, were joined by their friend Kim when they walked the 209 miles from Cumbria to their home town of Scarborough. The gruelling coast-to-coast trek took two weeks to complete and saw them raise a staggering £2,000.

Why they did it

“The celebrity challenges had me in tears,” says Ashleigh. “I just thought if they can do it so can I!” It rained every day of their walk but Alexene says thinking about the difference they were making kept their spirits up: “To think that children are dying of things like diarrhoea... if we can raise money with a daft walk and help to stop people dying from these preventable things, that is amazing. We’re definitely going to do something for Sport Relief 2016!”

...pay for eight young carers to go on a residential weekend away, giving them the chance to socialise, try new activities and take a break from their caring responsibilities at home.
