One rugby fan had the opportunity of a lifetime on Sunday when he was chosen to be a flag bearer at Sunday’s Scotland vs France, 6 Nations match at the Murrayfiled Stadium in Edinburgh.
Royal Bank of Scotland, 6 Nations sponsor and Sport Relief 2016 partner, gave the honour to Kevin Martin who works at Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse (FARE) – a project funded through money raised by Sport Relief.
The community support and development manager has worked at the project for four years.
It offers a range of services to meet the social, emotional and physical needs of the local community and not only has employed young people like Kevin, it’s also helped him further his education by enabling him to attend University.
Kevin held the flag for RBS in front of 67,000 fans and said money raised provides long term support for the FARE project.
Comic Relief awarded FARE with money to run a sports programme for hundreds of young people, as well as educational workshops in 25 schools in Glasgow.
“The money and long term support from Sport Relief has allowed us to work with some of the UK’s most disadvantaged young people, to provide numerous projects to help them escape the dangers of gang activity, alcohol/dugs and other forms of anti-social behavior,” Kevin said.
