“It’s hard not having a dementia diagnosis. It can give you an idea of how to stall the progress of the condition.”
There is no definitive test for dementia, and early signs are similar to many other disorders. Forced to retire early because of severe memory problems, Chris is one of many in the UK without a clear diagnosis.
The uncertainty, combined with an increased feeling of anxiety, led to Chris becoming depressed and, in 2014, attempting suicide.
It’s estimated that over 800,000 people in the UK are living with dementia.
Who we fund
Innovations in Dementia uses cash raised through Sport Relief to support people living with dementia, through a number of local groups where people can socialise and share their experiences.
On Our Radar uses cash raised through Sport Relief for the Dementia Diaries project. Participants record audio diaries to document living with the condition, as well as promote a richer dialogue around dementia.
